I have recently noticed that my 18 month old GSD Kaiser has been having some ear problems in only one ear: Dark brown discharge (no smell), shaking his head, scratching, and holding his ear down. He doesn't show any signs of "severe pain", just slight discomfort. He will still let me touch his ear and loves when I clean it. I called his vet to make an appointment for this week but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what it could be before I take him in?

It sounds like an infection of some sort.

Russ has huge donkey ears and he’s always getting stuff in them, and shaking his head. When I took him to the vet, he said they weren’t infected, but to use the Zymox whenever he starts rubbing his ears. I buy it from Amazon.

sort of a rusty brown , waxy , granular goop ? probably ear mites --- Zymox willl take care of the ears .
Doesn't sting .

You may want to give the dog a general shampoo and a more careful shampoo head and external ear , neck
and shoulder area with DEFENDEX.

won't harm -- these are not toxic .
