Annually, until the dog is a senior. I take my seniors in every 6 months because things can change very quickly as they get advanced in years.

Are you in the United States? If so, your dog should be on heartworm prevention, which requires an annual heartworm test to renew the prescription. Heartworms are awful, nasty things that cost a fortune to treat, and kill many dogs, esp. in the southern United States. Prevention costs as little as $5/month for a generic medicine from the Walmart pharmacy -- getting your prescription renewed is a good reason to go in for that annual check-up.

They should go once a year until they are considered seniors, then they should go every 6 months and ideally get bloodwork done every 6 months. I start doing this around 7 years old. As stated, things change very fast in geriatric animals.
