Nope, it isn't a posh, upscale fat farm.
It's what we got in a mystery box from the Russian butchers! Can anyone tell me what these things are?

Last week we had a financial issue, and I almost ran out of food because of it. So, I had to use the chicken drumsticks in the freezer for Grimm's food. Five days of chicken, and NO ITCHING! I rang his breeder, and she said Grimm's Dad eats chicken RMBs much of the week, and can eat chicken if it isn't excessive (not as MM in addition to the RMBs). Sooooooo..

I saw a jumbo box of "chicken thighs." That is what it SAID it was. 15 lbs for 14 dollars!!!!!! DH hauled it home and we crammed it into bags for the freezer and fridge. But then...(chilling chord).... this morning, I took one piece out to feed Grimm, and LOOKED at it.
I have no idea what these are!

There seems to be no "leg bones" that I can see. It is shaped like, and the size of, the palm of my hand. I can see spine and ribs and maybe butt.. pelvis? I dunno??.. and some miscelaneous guts all gnarly by the spine part. It was soft enough that with my butcher knife, I could cut one in half, so I fed him 1 1/2 pieces with his beef MM and a coupla smelt (fish) with tripe and a mini-chunk o' liver.

What are these things? Got spines and bums maybe and definitely ribs and some guts? It said "chicken thighs".. but I see no gorgeous chicken gams here.

Ideas what these might be-- besides a good deal?

It sounds like
to me... but I bet Grimm loved it! Wonder why they missmarked it. Sounds like a box of leftovers for making chicken broth.

Glad he didn't have any issues with the chicken RMB last week. Phew! What a relief that must have been.

THESE are chicken backs?? Wow! I always envisioned they would just look like.. well.. a spine.

Tracy, Grimm agrees with your assessment. (Oink!)

Oh my gosh, YES! That's it exactly! And if you flip it over, there's rubs and a spine and some gnarly other mystery-bones and stuff too, and a coupla glops of strange organs clinging to the inside middle.. maybe kidney? Grimm loves these, they are cheap-o, and the bones are so wonderfully soft, that I can even cut one of these in half if I need to!

Yes, yes, yes! The bonus of organ meat without having to touch it.
