All,

I've been following and browsing this website for close to two years but this is my first post. I have a 23 month old male GSD and I'm searching for a new vet. Why you ask? It just seems that my current vet doesn't have the breed specific knowledge I would like. Are there vets that specialize in GSD?
I'm located in the East Bay of California. Specifically, the Martinez/Walnut Creek area.

Below is a pic of my little guy.

Thanks in advance,

Jim

I’ve never come across, nor felt the need to search for a vet that specialized in GSD but mine have always been familiar with the breed and comfortable with my dogs...
I will PM you my current vet and another recommendation but both may be a bit far for you.
Another option would be to reach out to local German Shepherd rescues or breeders and see where their dogs are taken. I believe Golden State and Second Chance (both rescues) operate out of your area, and Sentinelhart (breeder) isn’t far from you.
Hope that helps.
Look for my PM.
@Cassidy's Mom anything to add?

Thanks for the reply. Maybe a GSD specialist doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. I don't even know if they exist. I guess I'm looking for someone who is very familiar with the breed. I've contacted a few rescue organizations hoping to get their recommendation, thanks. I've also tried my local law enforcement K-9 team but they told me they don't release that information. Hopefully I'll run into an officer out on patrol and I can ask directly.
