Trying to figure something out for a possible SIBO dog of a friend.

FOS or fructooligosaccharides which are considered prebiotics to promote the healthy GI bacteria (I had to have that little definition there to continue).

Are there any grain free foods with these FOS things?

Can the FOS be purchased-I think maybe JenM is for Gracie? I don't know if they know if this dog is allergic to anything.

Should it be one of those mid-range grain frees in terms of proteins and fat?

Not that there is one specific type of treatment that seems to work for all SIBO dogs!
Thanks!

I have switched Tessa over to Blue Buffalo - she likes the fish and sweet potatoe recipe. It contains both FOS and MOS - Monooligosaccharides - which help to control SIBO. It does not contain corn, wheat or soy. She is now off of tylan powder - keeping my fingers crossed - and is looking good. I have had a couple of conversations with Jen about Gracie and the foods she is trying and I think, she was going to try this as well.

I have slowly started adding the Blue Buffalo chicken and rice into Gracie's food - she LOVES it. I am going VERY slowly. Because it has both FOS and MOS, I don't need to suppliment. I am really encouraged that Tessa is doing do well on it, Holly!!

Barb, I checked my small animal nutrition book - it says to feed 1% of the weight of the food of FOS - that was no help what so ever!! I don't know the miligram dosage to use or anything like that. Gracie's vet was no help, he said to call Eukanuba/Iams vet consult number and ask them. I haven't been able to find anything on-line about dosage.

If I were to go to a suppliment, I was going to use Fast Track - it is FOS and gives the dosage on the jar.

I took a look at Orijen - how I wish I could get the Canadian food Acana - as it has FOS in it. http://www.championpetfoods.com/dogs/premium_adult.aspx

Hi Jen,
I tried the chicken initially with Tessa and she ate it when it was mixed with her Eukanuba but once she was eating it alone, she turned her nose up at it. I bought a small bag of the fish and sweet potatoe and she now devours it. I have stopped the tylan powder as well.

In addition, I can buy the BB at the local Petsmart.

It's probably the only good food at Petsmart!

As for getting back to Jean's topic - I have a penchant for getting off on tangets, Jean....sorry! Here is another food I have looked at but can't get anywhere so I'm trying the BB: http://www.petcurean.com/index.php?page_id=103
