We have a Farmers' Market downtown every Saturday. Even though I normally don't get home until 5:30 am, I try to make a point of taking my kids and Shadow down for some socialization, both for Shadow and my 7 yr old daughter.
Christina is EXTREMELY shy, with reason, and does not trust anybody easily, and will rarely if ever speak to someone she doesn't know well. I also think it's good for Shadow because of all the people, dogs, smells etc.
Well, Christina was getting impatient with everyone stopping us and asking if they could pet Shadow, and saying what a good puppy he was. (she wanted to get the the meat vendor to get her baby brother his weekly bone.) As we were waiting to cross the street, a lady to my left bent down and began to pet the dog. I didn't notice right away because I was trying to make sure Christina didn't dart into the roadway.
All of a sudden I hear my precious daughter clear her throat and say "EXCUSE ME LADY, YOU ARE VERY RUDE!!!! You didn't ask my Mummy if you could pet our dog. Do you know you ALWAYS have to ask!!!!!"
The lady stood up quickly and told me to teach my daughter some manners. I looked at her straight in the eye, and said I didn't see why my daughter needed to learn manners, when she was the one being rude.
A few people clapped. Christina turned a bright shade of red and hid her face in my side as we crossed the road.
I was sooo proud of my little girl. She won't say boo to defend herself, but touch her baby brothers (fur and skin), and she won't hesitate to tell you what's what!!!
