Hi!

We went to the vet last week and the issue of glocosamine came up. I give Syn-Flex which the two humans here also take on a daily basis along with the GSDs.

My vet said that because this was made specifically for humans, it might not be the best choice for our dogs. Frankly, after the dog food recall, I have tried to get human grade everything as I thought it would be a better product.

So what do most of you guys use?

Thanks,

Pat

I use Human grade stuff. LOL remember Vet's really like to sell what they have Cosaquin, Dasaquin, that way they can make more money.

Added: If human grade stuff ins't good, then why do many of the premium dog food manufactures say we use Human Grade Ingredients.

I use Springtime joint health and have been very happy with it. The only thing our vet wanted was the combination of Glucosamine, Condroitin & MSM. I guess I never thought of using a human joint supp for the dogs just because the ones I take are such big pills. The dog specific stuff is just easier for me to give. However, when it comes to probiotics, I give a human one....basically because I haven't found a very simple dog one and the ones I have are very small tablets that are easy to give the dogs with meals.

My vet told me to use human grade and that the chrondroitin was not found to be beneficial. She said to give Gluco. 2x per day for Kacie's elbow that never healed properly from an injury...she also talked me out of allergy test for food, as they aren't very accurate, elimination would be best for diagnosis.

I use Synflex as well. Works great for Annabelle who has HD.

They actually have a regular pet formula and a beef flavored pet formula, but I really don't think it's that much different from the human formula.

I use cosequin ds (only because I can get it really cheap at work). I sprinkle 2 capusles on Gracie's food daily. They make a human formula - cosamine - but it's expensive. I also add one 500 mg ester-c, human grade, that I buy at the grocery store.

Well, I appreciate the input. I believe we will stay with Syn-Flex as I know with me, it does work. I have used Cosequin in the past but I do like anything human grade.

Just wanted to check with the experts to make sure I wasn't giving something that was totally bad.

Frankly, I just like the fact it is human grade.

Thanks!

Michael's orthopedic surgeon prescribed human glocosamine, chondroitin, flax seed oil and fish oil (he suggested Nordic Naturals for the fish oil) for a injury 5 years ago that has caused HD. Zubrin in 5 day treatments when needed.
