Hello fellow GSD lovers,

I have a wonderful 10 month old GSD that I bought from someone on craigslist (I didn't know any better at the time) and he gave me the AKC pedigree paper but unfortunately I lost it.
I remember the paper had all German names however. Does this mean my dog is from German bloodlines or is it possible that he's still an American line GSD?
I'm also asking because it might be easy for backyard breeders to fake the papers and a new dog owner like me would've never knew.

Help is appreciated, thank you!

Don't know without the papers. Could be an American breeders using the German naming pattern.

your dogs appearance doesn’t lean strongly towards one type or another.... there are also many more lines than simply “american” or “german”. imo, your dog is likely a mash up of many different lines..... generally what one would consider “pet lines”

His tall ears, skull structure and lack of reddish colouration in the tan parts of his coat suggest more American lines than German to me. Can you post a stacked photo? That would show more.

If you were given valid AKC registration papers you should be able to get a copy from them. I think it's 5 or 10 dollars for a pdf copy
