Sounds just like Thor....local contact is going to see if we can get info regarding the owners and see if they are willing to work for placement versus having the dog euthanized, depending on what the situation was.

Well, AC will not release this dog to a rescue, only back to the owner who can then give over to rescue. Supposedly the attack on the other dog was unprovoked, but do not see where it was investigated by AC..just as reported by the owner.

I got the owner's name and number, and left her a voicemail, to see if I could find out more about the dog and the situation, and possibly see if she would be willing to surrender to a rescue.

The dog is scheduled for euth in the morning.
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

OK, just got off the phone with the owner....

"Lucy's Whistling Dixie" aka Lucy is an AKC registered dog, approx 8 years old. All she remembers is she got the dog from a Jeff who bred GSDs and was off Hwy 73 near Stanley NC...she cannot find Lucy's papers, but does remember Lucy's dad was Red something...Dad was red and black, mom was silver and black.

Lucy killed the Datschund about 12 days ago. She had one other run in with the small dog, but the small dog had started it, and since then they had kept Lucy away from the small dogs (owner has 2 other small dogs). Owner fully admits it was her fault, she forgot to put Lucy back in her pen from letting her run for a while and let the small dog out...owner sustained several leg gashes/wounds from trying to break the dogs up, the small dog died in the OR.

Lucy is protective of her environment, barks at people she doesn't know...ok with people she knows, got right into the truck for the AC guy no problem, gave the AC no issues at all, no fight, just wanted to go for a ride and play. Tries to herd the horses (nipping at their heels) and isn't often deterred when they try to kick her. She can come, fetch, sit on command, usually listens when given a command.

Owner does not want her back, but was a bit surprised when she heard Lucy would be gassed tomorrow...she was told by AC officer that a rescue would come get her..of course, they won't release to a rescue (but we are working on that)...she is willing to come reclaim the dog (as long as she doesn't have to SEE the dog ever again) so that a rescue could take Lucy. She says Lucy has a 20x20 pen she has lived most of her life in the backyard..but she is a good dog, and she would love to see her in a home where she would truly be loved...she had gotten Lucy for her then 10 year old daughter..and well, you know how that story goes...puppy gets bigger, daughter got bigger...no time for Lucy.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Lucy only has until tomorrow..hopefully until 5pm.

Thanks for crossposting and working up Lucy....this gorgeous dog doesn't deserve the treatment she has gotten. If any of you have any ideas how to track down the breeder, let me know...I haven't been successful with googling the limited info I have. If the owner finds the papers, she will call me back with the info she says. She did call me back about 20 min after I had called her, so she was definitely fine with talking to me.

Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

Also, per AC....Lucy has been in a pen with other dogs since the surrender without any issues.
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

Thanks, Sue for all of your hard work.

I wish there was some way I could help Lucy
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

For being eight, she doesn't have much grey on her muzzle. Let's hope she gets a second chance. At least the owner is willing to help her find a rescue.
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

The owner is willing to come and sign her away....but that is about it. She is not at all helping to find a rescue...even though she firmly admits it is her fault and she could have kept Lucy in a pen while she looked for another home for her.
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

Nothing has come up....poor Lucy.

Please, if anyone can help me do an AKC search and see if I can find Lucy's breeder, PLEASE PM or email me!!

thanks.
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

I am about to scream.

Lucy's "owner" just called me (9:30 at night) to see if I had gotten Lucy, as she swore she saw a pickup with 2 pet taxis in the back near the shelter today when she was picking up her meds, and really thought one of them was lucy.

Of course i told her no, lucy was still at the shelter, and at this point will be lucky if they wait until 5pm to euth her.

she hopes the best for me, gave me her cell so that "if I have to go down there and sign her out i guess i could" and otherwise it was what it was.

I have nothing for Lucy..would bring her here, she is fine with other big dogs...but she would eat my Sidney for lunch. VERY high prey drive with small dogs.

makes me want to scream.

Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

Hello everyone again,
I just wanted to let you know first of all that Thor will be going to my Dad's home at the end of this week. My dad lives a few minutes away, and so I will be able to see him everyday and spend tons of time with him. In November, our lease is over, and we will be moving to a place that Thor will be with us. I said all of this first of all to Thank you all for your wonderful work, and concern.

The other MAIN reason for my post is to say, that I never thought that Thor would end up where he is. Thor received a miracle from everyone here who contacted me, and helped me save him. I prayed for this miracle, and it happened! I am praying for Lucy. I know through Thor what she is going through. Lucy needs a miracle, and I know that everyone here is joining me in praying for this beautiful girl. It breaks my heart that another dog is going through this .
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

Animal control is giving Lucy until 5pm today....
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

Only a few hours left for this girl.
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

I have been told by another association that they won't take responsibility for a dog like Lucy because of the liability. That must be why this thread is so quiet. Even though it was completely the owner's fault...Lucy was bred with a high prey drive...if you buy a dog wanting that...then why get small dogs, and let them taunt the big dog?

Ridiculous.

I cannot take Lucy home with me..I have a JRT. She has been with other dogs without problems at AC....

I feel like I have failed Lucy....I am so sorry.
Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

Re: NC, Gaston County ANOTHER ONE!! F 8yo

Sue, you have NOT failed Lucy. The OWNER failed Lucy, not you!!! I'm so very sorry that I don't have any ideas on how to save her.
