Lily and I had our first puppy class on Thursday at PetCo. It actually went quite well. There are about 20 puppies in our class. I'd say it's a good thing I am using this class for socialization purposes more so than training because lots of puppies means lots of distractions!

Lily was bigger than all but 2 of the the other dogs. Most of the puppies are tiny little things and Lily LOVED them...but by loved I mean she wanted to play but kept running over the top of them. She is used to playing with 2 full grown pitts (about 65-70 lbs. each) so she's usually the baby. The little toy poodle to our left and the yorkie to our right did not quite match up! Oh well, at least she gets some experience with all sizes!

But she did good. I think she was one of the few pups that didn't pee, poop, or throw-up in class
And she paid close attention when doing the "Watch Me" command. Of course at home I have her doing sit, down, stay, watch me, up, off, come, and shake. She's pretty consistent except for stay and come...heaven help us if something more interesting comes along, which it inevitably always does!

Anyhow, just wanted to share our experiences!

ha i remember our first puppy class..tyson was 9 weeks old. there was only one other pup there that was a chitzu mix...the shitzu didnt quite match up either. the trainer wanted tyson to learn on his 3rd class that he's not the "big guy" so she brought in her border collie...yea right. he wasnt intimidated one bit haha. altho he didnt bully her. he also was quick to learn, i was amazed at how smart they are as pups

Just be careful. Even though you know the puppy is playing, lots of other owners will think your puppy is a bully just because it's the biggest dog in the class.

I always got bad looks in my puppy classes until the big puppy mastiff came.
He got all the attention then. People are just afraid of big dogs and whatever. Don't care if you like them or not, doesn't give them the right to be an ahole about it.

Keep on socializing lily and all will be well!
