My GSD as a puppy used to be very wary of everything, including other people and dogs. As she has grown up though, she has become more brave. All she wants to do is play and we do not know how to get her to socialise nicely with other dogs. Quite often there is growling and barking and I get very bad looks from other owners. I don't know how to stop her from being so hyperactive, it's almost as if she is viscous with other dogs - which I can reassure you she is not normally! How do I make her more comfortable and get her to stay with me rather than be obsessed with playing with other dogs? It is quite difficult to get her attention when she is distracted by other dogs - ideally I'd like her to be able to walk next to me without running off at every single dog. Or I wouldn't mind if she behaved nicely.

Also, she doesn't like men. It is as if she feels threatened by them, especially when they are wearing hats or with a hood up. She barks a lot and as she is a big dog sometimes it scares people. Any help or training or anything that would stop all of this would be much appreciated, thank you very much in advance!

I would start with on leash work and stop with the playing with other dogs. When you see another dog - turn suddenly, reward her for following, curve and so on. The idea is to keep her focused on you and not on the other dogs. Also keep a distance and avoid approaching face on with another dog. It helps to follow another dog being walked on a leash but at a distance so she can get used to seeing another dog but not interacting.
