Martingales come in slightly different configurations and may be worth a look. A regular buckle collar works alright once it's actually buckled and clear of hair, though that in itself can be a challenge. I picked up a buckle one that feeds through a loop and buckles on the "outside" of the material which helps keeps the hair away and getting caught.
I use a black Herm Sprenger prong with the quick release clip for walks where I need more input . prong collar
It does occasionally get caught in the fur.
as the back up collar and to hold dog tags/ id/ I use a martingale martingale collar the martingale works great and I can toss it into the washing machine when it looks dingy.
