Heidi is in the yard and has been eating a lot of grass (much more than I've ever seen her). I made her stop. She threw up a little bit this morning, but other than that, she seems to be OK.

When a dog is eating a lot of grass, should you make them stop? Also, I've noticed that whenever Heidi throws up, it's always just a tiny bit (usually yellow). Our last dog would throw up large quantities, but she never does. Can that be indicative of a digestive problem?

Would it be good to give her some Gas-X? If so, how much?

Thanks for any advice. The last time she went through something like this, it cost us over $200 and we never really did find out what it was!

How much and how often do you feed her? Maybe her metabolism is fast, and she needs smaller more frequent meals. Yellow bile means empty contents. The other day I took my son to school in the early am and took the dogs along. I was talking to Onyx and asking her if she wanted to go home and eat breakfast. Well she got excited and threw up in the car(only a 5 min drive home), but it must have gotten her digestive juices flowing at the comment, so she barfed bile... My dogs love the pampas grass that is just starting to grow here. It is very rough, and I stop them when I catch them eating it. I think they just like the taste. My grandma use to say that it was their way of treating an upset stomache, because of course the do usually throw it up after eating grass...I think they upchuck, because they can't digest it.

Thanks for your reply! I feed her twice a day, morning and evening. She gets about 2 cups each time (Wellness) and a little bit of canned food as well. She's gotten so that if I give her the dry stuff alone, she just looks at me and won't eat it! She seems to be eating a bit less these days. Maybe it's because of the heat (it was 102 here today!) She's on the skinny side, so I'd like her to gain a little, but she'll only eat so much....

Wow--that's very interesting! I would have never thought that a dog would eat grass because they like the taste!! The grass is very tall and lush looking today, so maybe she just can't resist it! She did finally stop though and she seems fine. I just hope she doesn't throw up when she comes back in the house for the evening!

I have noticied that our 2 have been trying a little grass lately. Their diet hasnt changed and they are healthy, so i just figure they try it as we actually have some grass right now

They havent thrown up or anything..maybe she just really liked it!

My guys are cows!!! They love grass...I feed them scraps of raw and cooked veggies with their meals just because they love it. Grass or raw broccoli is the same to them.

Cassidy is eating dandelion flowers now. My DH is freaked out by that, but it hasn't caused any problems so far. Does anyone know if this could be bad for her??

A lot of dogs seem to like grass. When Halley & Sammy start eating grass, we will give them either Tums or a little red pill for gas. We get the generic at Public which is called GasRelief. This is simply simethicone. I am a big believer in simethicone.

Gracie LOVES the clumps of grass left behind by the lawnmower wheels. I tell DH he has to rake them to break them up but he doesn't usually (I think he did yesterday or he bagged all the grass) because Gracie will eat it but then throw it up. I think grass is a food group for her (along with flying bugs)

Mine were eating grass like crazy, then I switched their food from TOTW wetlands to Wellness Core Ocean--now it's stopped

although now one of them is setting off gas bombs

Mine have both been eating a lot of grass lately. They eat different food so I don't think their food explains it. They do eat more in the morning before breakfast because I think their little tummies hurt because they're hungry.
