Eagle Pack Dog Food Outsources Some Ingredients..

I recently found out that Eagle Pack dog food outsources some of their ingredients, one being a vitamin that is added to the food which is made in India/China. Read below for details...

Eagle Pack Pet Foods, Inc. sources most of its approximately 100 ingredients domestically. However, Duck Meal originates from Germany, Anchovy, and Sardines Meals from Mexico, Salmon from the Pacific and Kelp from ocean waters off Nova Scotia. In our supplements, U.S. vitamin maker BASF sources B-vitamins from India/China. The FDA, State of Indiana, USDA/APHIS, and AAFCO regulate Eagle Pack Pet Foods, Inc.

Since I refuse to feed any food that has a product made in China in it, I am going to try Orijen and see if the dogs like it. They also get H.K. with added raw meat for one meal but it is nice to feed a quality kibble for the other for when they are boarded at the kennel.

Do you have a link to the full article on that? I thought Eagle Pack was supposed to be one of the better foods and more trustworthy than some of these dog food companies.
That was the reply that came directly from Eagle Pack when I wrote to them asking if they outsourced. I was surprised that they did too as I thought Eagle Pack Holistic was one of the better foods and the price is certainly higher on it. Finding out that the vitamins are made in China really disappointed me and I will not feed it any longer.

MANY vitamins are from China.

Did you email Orijen and ask about their vitamin sources?

Thanks for letting me know where you got that information. It is really sad that so many things are outsourced in this country. I guess it really pays to research dog food companies.
So a vitamin manufacturer and premixer who purchases their B vitamins from a Chinese firm and then sells the premixed vitamin powder to EP means that EP is a "bad" food?

You're kidding right?
No, I'm really not kidding. If you think anything edible including vitamins, that comes from China should be considered safe in our pets food, think again. Perhaps you'd like to read this article http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin...3&date=20070603

I'd start asking other companies the same question...because I think a lot of them get certain vitamins from China. From what I've read, it's pretty tough to avoid even the vitamins being outsourced unless you're feeding raw. Have you confirmed that other reputable companies are not getting any vitamins from China?
Mike,
You make a very good point and until now, I had no idea until now that so many vitamins and drugs sold in the U.S. are being made in China. I am going to look into a couple of the other brands that I am interested in plus am seeing if I have access to the right ingredients locally to go all raw. Thanks,

China corners vitamin market

There is no way around it...Most kibbles one way or the other have something in them from China. Fact of life..Then there is also antibiotics, amino acids, and enzymes....

I personally don't worry about all this, as I myself take a few things that come from China. So do my dogs. It is called world trade, whether we believe in it or not. You cannot blame China for what the USA buys:)
