Marvelous Max (Male, 5 yrs old, 95 lbs) has been with us since he was twelve weeks old, and has been a complete sweetheart. Loves people and children, loves to play with other dogs. We had him neutered early on.

lately though, he's become somewhat aggressive/dominant toward other dogs, and because he's so large and strong this is potentially a concern. He tries to mount other dogs of either gender, and though he rarely growls upon meeting another dog, if the dog he meets puts on any kind of defensive show, Max is ready for a brawl.

This is a puzzle to us. Any advice on training, etc., to stop this? He gets plenty of exercise.

This is what works for us. Our 3 yr old Molly has always been very dominant. We taught her "down", it's the one command she really knows and does very well. When meeting dogs and she seems to be a bit dominant or growly, we just tell her to go "down", and then let her hang around the other dog for a few minutes, then start the meeting process over again and often they end up playing. We do this for the dogs in our neighborhood and the dogs in our area GSD group we attend once in awhile.

Sorry I don't have a more standard or generalized proven method. I hope you find something that works soon.
