A friend and I are going to raspberry ridge farm for a herding instinct test and decided to make a weekend of it. We would love to take the dogs to a lake, but I can't seem to find any dog friendly ones in the area. I know the Delaware Water Gap is near by, but according to the website no dogs allowed on the beaches. Any ideas?

There is a state park about 30 minutes from Bangor....I think towards Lehigh area. You might want to try that.

might be way too far or not open but Knoble's Amuzement Park allows dogs.(not sure on that spelling) I think it is about 1.5 hour drive from there

If you're still interested, Jacobsburg State Park is only about 10 miles west of Bangor. It has some great hiking trails and does allow dogs. Most of the trails are wooded, and it's a great way to see some beautiful scenery and get some exercise too.

With 70,000 acres available at Delaware Water Gap NRA, the closure of the 2 beaches on the river has pretty much no impact on anyone's enjoyment of the area if they bring their dog.

In the town of Delaware Water Gap, on Rt 611 and just off Rt 80 one of the trailheads for the Appalachian Trail is found just up Mountain Rd (just turn up the road away from the river, and follow the white blazes up the road!). There is parking there, almost immediately you come to a small pond called Lake Lenape, and if you continue up the way you can go all the way up Mt Minsi on the Appalachian Trail or looping around on the fire road. And there are tons and tons of other hiking trails in the park. All the walking trails (except at the high use areas like with the Visitor Centers) are open to leashed dogs. The McDade Trail, the continuation of the Appalachian Trail into NJ (parking on the NJ side of the gap off Rt 80). Scads of trails then as you go north on either side of the river. Worthington State Park is right there in NJ also

haha scary really? i spent a lot of time there in high school, as many of my friends went to high school there (i lived about 15 minutes away). i really never got to appreciate the town as we spent most of our time doing teenage things. however, it is very cute, lots of bike riding trails, white water rafting nearby, cool hiking trails (the glen), it has an old school charm with a hippie kind of atmosphere

Isn't that the same road that used to lead to the Old Copper Mine Inn and campgrounds? I used to spend many summers there and the water skiing was great!
