Dog Waste Cleanup

1292 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Elsieb
We pick up after the pups outside up to 4+ times per day and always use the plastic shopping bags. That's a lot of bags being used. Sometimes we run out of bags and I have to open "used" bags
I was looking though the Dr. Foster & Smith catalog and came across the Doggy Dooley which sparked my interest. It seems like a good concept if it really works. Does anyone have one of these or something similar? I'd appreciate any positive/negative feedback. Or, any feedback on a different way of disposing of waste would be helpful as well.

I use a diaper bucket. Same concept, half the money, didn't need to dig a hole in the ground and don't hurt my bag reaching into the ground to pick up a sack of poo.
i use plastic grocery bags also, pick up at least 3 times a day with two dogs, and a grandkid outside playing. my thing was our disposal service had said no manure in the trash. hello......where are we supposed to put it. have seen the doggy dooley also, but still have to buy stuff for it and would run in to more costs. haven't tried putting the bags in a diaper pail, that may help until pick up days.
The thing with diaper dooley is that it composts the waste so you do not have to put it in the trash. It works better in some climates than others. If you do not use the compost on your vegetable garden but only on ornamentals, you can compost dog feces.
We have a large garbage can with a sealed top that we just keep adding to. When its time we take the bag out and throw it away.

Thank you!! Never had kids so I wasn't familiar with diaper pails but went to box store & got one right after reading your post a few months ago - I did get a 'fancy' one that had a built in baking soda holder and the bags close up when the lid shuts. When it is time to empty there is no smell or mess. We had a small garbage pail with a lid before this and the summer smells were not good! I try to pick up each time or it can be hard to find the deposits:) until I step on them. And now the falling leaves make it harder to spot them.
