First, I wasn't sure where to post this, so if it needs to be moved, please do so.

Anyway, have any of you given your puppers dog tranquilizers?

Jordan is so scared of storms and with firecracker season coming up soon, I was thinking of looking to this option.

Of course if anyone has better ideas, please tell me. I don't think I can move to a climate where it snows year round LOL

I give my aussie melatonin,,she is absolutely petrified,,and knows when a storm is coming..I swear she shakes so bad I think she's going to have a seizure one day..

The melatonin seems to take the edge off,,it kicks in fast, and doesn't 'drug' her out or anything,,just seems to chill her out more..
I give her 10mgs (2 / 5mgs tabs) she is 42 lbs..

I tried tranq's on one of my gsd's who was also petrified of storms/firworks,,he turned into a zombie,,so I stopped using them .

Don't give any affection during time of unstable behavior (you don't want to reinforce behavior, you may already know that

Also, try tight t shirt on dog,

Thanks for melatonin tip as well Jakoda

I have good results with Melatonin but I know people that have GREAT results.

We have one ready to start so I am keeping my fingers crossed that 5 mg gets her through the night.

I used to have to give tranquilizers to Thunder during storms, but I hated the effect it had on him... he could barely walk and it took him a long time to "wake up" from them. Rescue Remedy has been one of the best things I've tried so far.
