We have noticed that Dakota has an abnormal amount of discharge coming from his penis. Its yellowish. We took him to the vet today and they did an exam and ran a urinalysis. They said he does not have an infection and that discharge is normal. They also seemed pretty sure that what we are seeing on our couch is urine, not discharge ( even though they didnt see it.) They think maybe he is incontinent. However, its clearly not urine, its discharge. I know a small amount is normal, but this is a significant amount. Anyone else have this problem? Maybe just a problem from old age? They said there was white blood cells in his urine, from the discharge, but yet they weren't worried at all.

Jones went through a period where he had significant discharge from his penis - he left drops of it all around the house. The vet did the same thing as yours, but decided that it was just smegma as there were no other issues they could find. It's since stopped being an issue, but I have no idea what made the difference.

Yes, schmegma. Oscar had increased amounts of this a couple months ago. The holistic vet checked him out and said that he did not have any infection that was causing it and said that some males, especially those that are intact, have increased amounts of schmegma (which is simply a penile lubricant). Oscar had large amounts of it when we would first get up in the morning or after we got home from work - basically when he would start to get excited about going out for potty and play time.

Since his neuter a little over a month ago, it has decreased dramatically...but it did take about 2 weeks after the neuter for it to go away completely.

Those couple of months were pretty fun though, walking around the house on schmegma patrol with baby wipes. Thank goodness we had hardwood floors. :)
