Our 8 month old German Shepherd has had diarrhea for about a month. Vet has tried 2 rounds of metronidazole & 1 round Panacur. He didn't have any parasites in his stool sample. We did chicken & rice & got it back to normal texture. We added his Blue Buffalo large breed puppy back in very slowly & he has gone back to looser stools. It has to be the food causing the diarrhea. Any suggestions for what to try next or what to do? It's just puzzling to me that he ate this food for months & now has diarrhea with it. Thanks for the help.

If you do a forum search on blue buffalo and diarrhea, I think you'll find there's been a lot of people who've posted with similar experiences.

The first kibble change that I made when my boy was a pup was Blue Buffalo. I wanted and thought I was switching to a better food but he had terrible stools from it so switched back to what he was on and did more research before changing again. I remember also adding a probiotic while switching back which helped his digestion a lot.

Just called our vet & they suggest putting him on canned or dry Purina EN but when I looked at dogfoodadvisor it was not reported as a good food & is expensive as all get out. $86 for 32lb bag. She only wanted us to try him on this for 2 weeks before we transition to a new food.

So sorry you're having to deal with diarrhea - it's the worst. For some reason we've always tried Wellness for our puppies and I've always been shocked by their on again off again stool issues - so last week at the suggestion of our trainer we just made the switch to Acana Duck & Apple - and it's AWESOME. Day 1 normal stools, Hudson loves it (he's 7 months old), it's been a life saver. Just thought I'd share!

So we did a trial all this past week on a prescription diet Hill Science ID & he started with diarrhea once we were on the food only. Vet now wants to do a pancreatic enzyme test. Has anyone had experience with this?

choose one of the foods (kibbles) recommended by karldruper "Maybe is just the food...I would try more brands Orijen, Fromm, Victor, Acana puppy formula..."

add digestive enzymes and probiotics --

so big question . Your dog is 8 months and has had poor stool for about a month . Can you go back into your memory bank and think about what might have set him on this course. Try to find the cause .

was there any treatment requiring antibiotics ?

in the meantime give the dog some slippery elm .

Well I just called the vets office & our dog tested positive the exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) disorder & will require powder in his food & injections. They will call us back shortly to discuss the plan & have us come in to learn how to take care of him. Any assistance is appreciated!
