I was hiking with my dog this morning and we happened upon some kind of old abandoned barn/corral that we decided to explore. I ended up finding a deer antler, very small, 2 points, probably a very young buck. I see these at petco as well as the local pet food store I frequent, something the size I found costs $15-20. Having found this in the woods, is it safe to give my dog? If not, can I sterilize it or do something else to make it edible? Thanks!

It's safe! I have found them too. I just wash them with soap and water.

That's what we have been using for years, drop horns from deer, elk/moose. Just scrub them up. One thing I always do, if the points are sharp, just pop off the ends so they don't end sticking themselves in the eye. I usually stick the tip in between boards on my deck and just pop off the tip.

I wouldn't use soap. Antlers can soak that up making it impossible to rinse it all out. I should just gently scrub it with water and brush. Then freeze it for several days to kill any potential parasites.
