I am wondering if anyone has had a problem with their pup ignoring some sounds?? I actually thought she was deaf for a minute but when the Geese fly overhead her little ears perk up and she sits up and watches them fly. Perks up when dogs in the neighborhood are being noisy too.
She jumps a little when I start my van and when my Dad starts his Diesel truck she tilts her head and barks at it. She definitely hears sounds but TOTALLY can ignore things too. If she is sleeping and someone whistles she will open one eye and then go back to sleep most of the time. Loud noises do not startle her AT ALL. I can call her name and she ignores it sometimes or she comes running?? It's like she picks and chooses what she reacts too. Is this okay? Should I take her to the vet? Do they have a hearing test for dogs? She will be 7 weeks old on Thursday. Any advice would be appreciated.

It can't hurt to go to the vet to make sure.

But probably you have a normal puppy. And a puppy has the attention span of a gnat. And it's motivators are few, food and fun. So if you aren't involving food or fun in your words, and your puppy is currently involved in food or fun, then you WILL be ignored.

You try clicker training? Best way to make sure we use food/praise to train. And get the gnat attention spam involved for the short amount of time they can learn the 'game' for the day.
