Please always consider owning a crate for comfort and safety of the dog. Remember that we all reside in a structure with walls and enjoy the safety as well as the comfort. A dog can rapidly get into trouble with a bowel obstruction occurring due to eating dangerous objects or inappropriate food ( Bread dough rising on the counter in order to be baked)
A crate in the vehicle may very well save the dogs life if an accident should occur and your pet could be violently tossed about and /or escape from the vehicle when a door is forced open due to the collision.
We must always be their best

People who resist crate training are really doing themselves a disservice. First, it is by far the best tool in house breaking there is. Using their instinct not to go to the bathroom where they sleep is invaluable. It also simply prevents the dog from doing dangerous things like eating something poisonous, or chewing an electrical cord for example. It can save your house and furniture from damage.

I think that some people see it through human eyes and think of it as a punishment, or a cage, or "doggy jail". Really you are proving a safe place, a home. They love it.

You wouldn't let a toddler have free rain around the house, unsupervised. It's not "baby jail" to use a crib at night. Safety first.
