I have a 3 mth old GSD and the first week we had him (at two months old), he whined for about 15 min at night, but slept through the night, except when I would wake at about 3 a.m. to take him out. He got pneumonia the next week and I had to keep a close eye on his breathing, so he slept out of the crate for a few days, with me next to him. Now that he's better, he WILL NOT sleep in the crate, even though it was only 3 nights. He will go in and then whine and bark for hours! No one can sleep. Any suggestions?

He's in the crate during the day for 3 hours at a time while I am at work. I come home for lunch and let him out to take a potty break and play for about an hour. He goes back in until the kids get out of school a couple of hours later. After that, he is either outside with the kids or in the house with us.
I feel like I've been set back now....what can I do????

I always thought of crates at night for sleeping as when you put the baby down for nap time. You have to preserver through all the crying. I also noticed having the crate always available made my dog really like it. He can walk in and out of it as much as he wants when I'm home and when it's bed time he goes in sleeps without an issue. I know the first two weeks or so were awful when we first got his crate because he spent about 2 months sleeping on the bed with us (dumb I know) and he cried, pawed, and chewed on his crate but we just kept strong and about an hour or so he'd give up and we'd go to sleep. Hopefully more people will chime in and help because my way definitely isn't the only way and the more options the better :)
