I bought some colostrum for Rafi. I'm boosting his immune system to help fight a new outbreak of demodectic mange.

The capsules are 500 mg and I'm giving him one a day--1/2 with each meal. Is that the correct dosage?

Thanks for any help on this!

ruth,
not sure of the dosage, did you get the people colostrum, or specifically for dogs formula? i know KV Vet supply has CC with bovine colostrum in it. its easier getting the dog specific, then the dosage is right there for ya. although, as with anything i would start on the low side and slowly work up to a higher dosage.

Dr. Blake-who has been using colostrom for many years on pets- recommends this:

For hypersensitive patients, I start them out on a pinch of colostrum to make sure they do not over react to the healing potential of the colostrum. Once they are on it and not over reacting, I start increasing the amount gradually to a dose of 1/3 tsp per 25 pounds of body wt per day. For 99% of the cases, I start them on 1/3 tsp per 25 pounds of body weight once per day. I always tell the client to give the colostrum at least one month to evaluate its effect. I have had patients that respond in one day and some may take several months. My personal experience was immediate for my acute problem and 2 years for a 20-year-old chronic problem.

But he also emphasises on the quality of the colostrum you get.

How did the colostrum trial go? I ordered this one http://www.kvvet.com/KVVet/productr.asp?...AA1079BF9171FFB from KV Pet (Colostrum Plus). It should be here any minute now and I'm wondering how slow I need to start out. poor Lady Jane - I hope this goes better than the bee pollen and the peanut butter and the tuna juice...

Sheesh--I started this thread and then forgot about it.

I gave him people colostrum in capsule form for 3 months. His mange did go away (without anything chemical although I did use a NEEM spray for his skin) but I have no idea if it had anything to do with the colostrum. He didn't have any adverse effects from it. I just gave him a capsule a day, split into two meals.

I hope it helps Lady Jane.
