Hi all . I know this is a gsd forum but I have question about min pin.

About 1 month ago we got a 7 mo min pin pup who had a horrible coat. Was is not true. He HAS a bad coat. Before getting him. He had spent the winter outside. Well he has been on better food and otherwise seems to be healthy. The fur seems thick and just yukky. Sorry not a very good description. I thought their coats are supposed to be short and sleek. Any help?

improved diet may take over a month to see changes...

is there a possibility that he's a mix?

i've only had experience with dobermans and i know that some lines of dobies get really thick coats in the winter in the form of light uneven dull patches - if they arent groomed with a sufficient tool it wont fall out or shed on its own.

any possibility of a pic?

also, if he's a choc/tan - their coats also arent as impressive as black/tans.

again, i'm speaking of dobermans... but their coats are pretty comparable.

He is purebred. Saw mom,dad, and generations of paperwork. he is a blk and tan. I will try to get some pics up soon.

Some of those small dogs have a hormonal disorder, special to those breeds (I would have to look it up on the files on my laptop). The first rule-out would be to have the thyroid checked, but I would want to know what exact food did you switch him to?
