Okay, it was just U-Fli preflight, which is basically two 7 minute periods in the ring per day to work on whatever you want and it doesn't count for points or anything like team racing does, but it's valuable tournament experience for a green dog that is not ready to race yet. She's 15 months old as of last Saturday so we're just starting to work on training a box turn. In the meantime, we're doing lots of recalls with a variety of different dogs and restrainers. This was a huge, very loud indoor tournament with two rings of racing all day, completely different from our practices.

What was new for Cava? First time at a tournament. First time running indoors on mats vs outdoors on grass. Over a hundred people and I don't even know how many dogs, with a corresponding noise and activity level. First time being crated in close proximity to a bunch of other dogs, since at practice we've been crating out of our cars. She had dogs inches from her face going into and coming out of their crates all weekend, she had dogs snarking at her as we walked by their crates, pretty much every distraction you can think of. We spent two nights in a hotel and she rode the elevator several times, which was actually not completely new for her since she had an overnight at a hotel on her drive out west from Colorado almost a year ago. It was a lot to throw at a young dog, and I couldn't have been more thrilled with how she did.

Here's one video from her morning set on Saturday and then Sunday:

The first 9 sets each day were Preflight and Cava was up in #7, so there's not as much activity going on in the other ring as there was in her afternoon sets. On Sunday, she was in the same ring as these videos, in the right lane, and just feet away there was a full team race going on while we were doing recalls. Not only did she not care about the dog in the other lane in our ring, she didn't care about the dogs in the ring next to her either. She was focused and driven, exactly what I wanted to see. So excited about this girlie!

She's kickin' some butt! We saw several other Preflight sets and most of the dogs were working one at a time. Our club had two dogs doing Preflight and both of them were working with a dog in the other lane as a distraction. SO much more challenging!

Thanks guys! We have a lot of work ahead of us before she's racing on a team but I'm pretty proud of how well she's doing so far.
