Its a relief when all the time and effort you put in isnt crushed by a bad hip. Im still putting it off until spring. At least she is female so fair isnt the end of the world.

Out of curiosity where you planning to breed her or just trying to decide what level of sport to do with her based on her hip results? I had similar bad news in one hip on my girls prelims, a little worse than yours, and it has me rethinking what I want to do with her.

Just looking for now in terms of sport. Too young to decide breeding choices still. I still don't consider this bad news though and don't think her hips are bad at all..Fair is a passing rating

Interesting, thank you for sharing. Our of curiosity, how expensive is it to do the Xrays?

definite need better positioning on both elbows and especially hips.
Yeah, we just tried the vet with good reviews in the town we moved to recently. I think next time I'm going to drive all the way to Rhode Island to have them done at a place I know will get the perfect positioning. I just wanted to see where we were at :)

No problem. These were about $300-$350 I believe, including the initial exam (for being new clients) and the sedation.

I wouldn't say Fair (especially on a prelim, not official) is "bad" news. Fair is passing! That's good news :)

That's the best they could do with a sedated dog?? That's just inexcusable. Definitely find another vet.

I'd be slightly concerned with that right hip (left side of x-ray). Coverage looks good, but it looks like the ball is starting to slightly disfigure. That's probably where the "fair" rating is coming from, I'd imagine.

The image quality is actually pretty crappy, being copied onto my computer. The femoral heads are both very round when looking at the original xray. And I've seen much, much worse than these rads before, so I wouldn't exactly call it inexcusable, but maybe just not ideal. Carma is long and thin and bony, and they had a hard time getting her super straight.

As I said earlier, this was mostly just to take a look. They are preliminary xrays. I wasn't willing to drop $500 on prelims at the vet where I know we will get much better positioning. Its obvious to myself and to the vet that there isn't any evidence of dysplaysia, and that's all I was concerned about. I honestly don't know how to read elbows, but I'm happy with a normal rating from these rads too.
