car sick puppy

My 12 week old puppy gets car sick and I wanted to know if anyone had suggestions in helping him. Is this a stage he will outgrow? I feel bad taking him anywhere because he gets sick but I want to socialize him as much as possible.

I used to have a lab/irish setter mix many years ago; she got carsick. I had to make sure that I didn't feed or water her for an hour or two before I put her in the car.

Dante got carsick, probably until he was about 6 months oldish.
Ginger helped and I've talked to other folks that Ginger also worked. Since I'm not a big shopper I just found the best Ginger Snap cookies I could and gave him a couple about 15-20 minutes before getting in the car.

I also tried to time trips so that he was traveling on a full belly.

Like I said though, he did out grow it!!
My car still has tale tale signs of a car sick gsdx. I would give him the non-drowsey dramamine which helped. He has outgrown it - 5 years old now.

A trainer I used very early on told me it was my driving. He made me drive him in my car. When we were finished, he explained to me that a human stomach flops up and down - that's why people get sick going deep sea fishing. He said a dog's stomach flops from side to side. He said I was driving from side to side and making him sick. I was careful to drive very straight. Whether it was that or not who knows but at least he has outgrown it!!
