I've noticed that Ruby is becoming calmer. In the mornig she will now lay right outside the bathroom in the hallway watching me do my hair and make up. Before she used to run around the house and get into things. Sometimes if I'm cleaning the room or whatever she'll go lay in her crate. She naps in whatever room with relative ease. She is not CONSTANTLY on the go like she used to be. I noticed this over the past couple weeks. I guess she is maturing some.
She still plays and runs around, will chase the cats if given a chance, but she just seems more controlled.

I'm surprised I thought she'd be around 4 before she started to relax some.

Is there hope?! My dog will be one year old in a couple of weeks, and I am still trying to get out of playing with his toy (he likes to chew on it and shove it on me at the same time) while ironing. I swear it is just like having a three year old! I can't work in the yard until he takes a nap. I thought it would be alot longer than that also.

He knows which bedroom doors he can bump open with his nose. In the morning, he pushes open my and dh door just a couple of inches and will try to sneak in and poke me with his nose. dd #2's door shuts securely, so he just jiggles the door knob with his nose. dd #1's door shuts but doesn't latch, so he waits until I turn my back and quickly bumps her door open, runs to her bed, sticks his nose under the covers and bumps her with his wet nose (makes her so mad!). Bathroom door has a lock, so it will bump open unless locked. He grabs the doorknob with his teeth and tries to turn it to open!

He goes from room to room first thing in the morning (once I get up) just to say hi to everyone!

Heidi does this to...its THE most annoying behavior.

She is 1.5 years old too...and also is settling nicely. She will have her moments...but, its nice to see the maturity sneaking up.

Ah, calm moments are very nice.

Ruby still will wrap her paw around my leg and shove a toy by my feet while I'm trying to sweep. I tried sweepin yesterday and she mostly scattered everything I was doing. But she did take a nice long nap with me prior to that- so it was a good trade off.

Hang in there! My GSD really calmed down about 2-2 1/2 years old. I started to notice it at about 1 1/2 years but he was still VERY playful and active until then. By the time he was 2 yrs old he had become very independent and could entertain himself without totally annoying me!

I am a teacher and in those first 2 summers (he was 6 months and 1 1/2 months) when my hubsand got home I would tell him it was time for him to be with the dog because I was so annoyed!

Hang in there it gets better and sometimes I miss those days. He still loves to play and is active, just not annoying!
