Quote from facebook:
"This shepherd got out and ended up at the Harrison county pound along with another dog. The owners were called and when they got there they took the other dog home and said that they did not want the shepherd. She cried for them for hours. She needs a home where she can feel wanted. If you live in Ohio or surrounding areas, please email [email protected] and please share this!"

Don't know her name or age.

Gentle Barn is currently working with the Harrison County officials to upgrade this shelter so that all animals have warm and sanitary facilities.
This has been the subject of much public outcry over abused animals at this facility:

I have personally donated to help better the situation at this one small facility in Ohio. Maybe someone in the area could help this one black female German Shepherd?

She is beautiful! How sad her owners took the other dog and not her. I hope she gets a good home where she can be loved.

To the best of my understanding of the situation there at Cadiz, Ohio--at the present time this shelter is NOT fully functioning as a shelter until they get the building up to minimal standards, ie: hot water, heat, kennels protected from the freezing cold, etc.
Up until early this month, the dogs had NO shelter whatsoever and were caged out in the snow and ice in deplorable conditions.
Note the long wish list on their petfinder location site.
Harrison County Dog Pound
Things started to change once the local news hit the National News Circuit.
They are just dealing with animals that are "dropped off" or abandoned there with them day by day right now.
This Black female German Shepherd is one of those who were dropped off.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Just received a reply from Ellie at Gentle Barn, and she says that this dog is NOT in danger of being put to sleep.
She is NOT at the Dog Pound, but at the veterinarian where all the dogs that were extracted from this pound were taken.
(Some have been adopted, but there are at least 5 other non-GSD's still needing permanent homes as well.)
This is what Ellie said about the Black GSD:

"She is about 1 ½ (years old). She is at our vets and needs a home but won’t be put to sleep. Here she is along with the other dogs we have at the vets from the pound. All are great with dogs and cats."

Update tonight (Sunday 1/30/2011) on this black female GSD:
(from Ellie at Gentle Barn)

"We have a home check for the black shepherd from Ohio who was left at the pound by her people who said that they did not want her, but took their other dog home with them. Keep your fingers crossed and we'll let you know how it goes."

Awesome! :happyboogie:A home where she will be loved and appreciated. Her old and uncaring family already forgotten. Have a happy life little sweetie....and thanks to you again kfyffe, for donating and caring about this shelter....and some other good news - the GAS CHAMBER at this place has been removed, no longer will animals have to face a cruel and painful death.
