by environment i mean heights, different surfaces, noises, urban, rural etc.

someone recently asked what i do, i never really thought about doing anything other than realy exposure and letting the dog progress at it's own speed.

the person was using treats and "training" their pup, seemed to just create anxiety and tension in the pup??

what do you guys do??

here is my typical progression;

I just take my dog everywhere and expose him to everything I can. If things didn't go well (he was fearful or something) I wouldn't expose him to that thing again. But thus far, he's responded extremely well to everything. He's 9 months old and is still being exposed to new things (ie: we were hiking alongside horses yesterday). No treats involved. I don't baby him.

Like last week I brought him down town for the first time (downtown Chicago - alot of new exposure) I got him out of the car and we just started walking like usual. He was interested in the environment. Didn't have to coax him out of the car, or coax him to cross the busy streets. He reacted fine, and was accustomed to the new environment very quickly.
