Anybody have experiance with this food? Thoughts? I got some today to try for the pack as they have been on Candiae, and in the past two days I have had two dogs go from just fine to throwing up their food and diarrhea. They just started a new bag of the new formula this past week, so makes me think it is that. (Fecal negative on both, they have been wormed not long ago). So instead of waiting to see if any of the other 3 get sick, I decided we'll go food shopping again...

With 5 to feed (all but one over 50 pounds) we have to find something that's not too expensive, but not grocery store crap either
Candiae was nice price wise, BC was a bit more expensive for only 30 pounds but still ok pricewise... We only got time to hit petsmart, they had that, Blue Buffalo was 44 dollars for 30 pounds, and BC Adoverm was 50 dollars for 30 pounds. Will be checking Wellness Core price next time we go to countrymax. I tend to play around a bit till I pick the new food to settle them on. (bad of me probably

But just wondering,
Thanks!

I don't know much about Breeders Choice Active Care but BC also makes Pinnacle Chicken and Oats which is a "holistic" food. I feed it and have excellent results (results may vary!). It costs me $36 for 30 lbs. and has great ingredients. You can read about it here: http://www.breeders-choice.com/dog_products/pinnacle_dog_orig.htm

must be nice to get it that cheap! I was looking for both avoderm and pinnacle but petsmart only had Avoderm and that was 50 for 30 pounds... Will check out petco for pinnacle.

Go see Mario!
He's closed on Sundays now.

I think his prices are pretty competitive, but I am not sure if he can beat the larger chains. His selection is great though. I go once a month or every 6 weeks (depending on how much I get) to get my big order.

He carries Breeder's Choice/Pinnacle and is very helpful with food choices. Though I don't think there is any way that Pinnacle can be that cheap around here.
That's a great price.

my biggest problem is, one week I might have 5 dogs here, the next week I might have 7 (fosters)... hence why we try and find a good food that won't drain the bank account
As I like to keep everyone on the same food.

Canidae at 36 dollars for 35 pounds was affordable and everyone did good on it till recently (and of course that is on sale all month now, go figure

perhaps it's time to bring the freezer back into the house and go back to raw but we couldn't find enough bargin deals then either.

I must downsize the zoo! (4 horses, 4 sheep, 5 dogs, 8 cats between the house and barn cats, plus chickens

I did this last year, played around with foods and picked what they all seemed to do best on. But it's a headache isn't it?!

Other one at petsmart was Natures Variety (I think), I tried that before but can't remember why I didn't stay with it...no bad reactions, just think I wasn't overly impressed with it I can't remember... Anyone use this?

It's funny because the chicken and oats formula is $36 for 30 lbs. but other Pinnacle formulas are $48 or so for 30 lbs. I buy it at a local, privately owned feed store which is one of two places that carries it here. The other place sells it for $39 a 30 lb. bag. I don't want to stir things up by asking them why one Pinnacle formula so much cheaper than the others.

Phay,
It's really hard today to find one food that works for all the dogs.
Have you ever tried the Kirkland Chicken & Rice at Costco?
I don't have the bag to give you the ingredients but pretty darn good for the price at 40#.

I fed the Avo Active Care Lamb and Rice to Max before I took him completely off kibble. He did the best on that kibble. It isn't fancy at all, and I think that's why he did okay on it. At the time, it was one of the few lamb kibbles that didn't have chicken fat in it. I don't know if that's still the case though.

I've never tried avoderm, but fed pinnacle for a year or so. My dogs did really well on it. Just got really hard to find locally tho..

I like Breeder Choice, and would not hesitate putting my kibble fed dogs back on it..

Good luck!

i'm with Mike - kirkland food has great ingredients for the value... other foods that are comparable to canidae are natural balance (light blue bag) and chicken soup. i feed my dogs raw a min of 3 days a week, so for me i just need a basic good quality kibble that wont kill my starving student budget.

i've fed gia avo derm in the past and she did well on it, but its now too expensive in my opinion since the recommended feeding for my dogs is 4-5 cups. with the other brands i'm feeding gia 2 and tilden 2.5 cups and paying about 8 bucks less.
