Hi everyone, this is my first time posting so bare with me! My GSDs lower lip is turning red from always being black. He has food and environmental allergies...not sure if it’s allergy related. I also researched lip fold Pyoderma, but this looks different from the pictures. Has anyone seen this before?

Perfectly normal - at least in my world.

A couple of my GSD’s will get that once / year. I equate it to chap lips.

Usually, it accompanies dryness around the affected area. It may crack a bit, but eventually new tissue forms, the old skin scabs, flakes over and falls off (if I don’t pick it off, first).

I’ve tried adding topicals, but my dogs just lick that off.

I think it’s allergy or season change related.

Ultimately, though, it’s no big deal and always self corrects.

Best of luck with your handsome boy!
