i had been planning on ordering a new muzzle for teagan from leerburg (she came muzzle trained - whoo hoo! i guess) as the one she has now her nose pops out of (hot dogs all dressed muzzles....they're sort of fashiony, i found the link from a bully rescue group b/c ON sucks and has BSL).
http://www.leerburg.com/1058.htm
i really like the look, style, that it's black (so all her stuff can match, of course).

i was going to be ordering an e-collar from there, but some of the stuff i've been reading about the leerburg e-collar video and the methods used in it i have a really problem with - really, not to be pissy, but i don't want to send money to a purveyor of that sort of methods. maybe that's an overreaction, but it's how i feel at the moment. so i'm getting my e-collar elsewhere (from lou castle). and i'm ordering some new harnesses, custom made leads, and deployment collars (i know they're pets, but i LOVE LOVE LOVE the handles - best ever) from canine outfitters, in canada, he makes all the stuff to order and i'm really impressed from speaking to him and how quickly he's responded. http://www.canineoutfitters.com excited to get my stuff!

does anyone know of anywhere i can get a black leather muzzle, similar to the one above? canine outfitters doesn't sell muzzles, and i looked online at rayallen, and loved the $270 muzzle (but am not spending $270 on a muzzle for a pet!), meh on the $51 dollar one, assuming i could get it in black.

suggestions?

What is the muzzle for? Makes a difference in the kind you get. If it's for muzzle fighting (sport/LE/PPD protection work) you need a specific kind. If it's for safety to prevent bites, any muzzle will work. I like the plastic Ramco muzzles for that.

to prevent bites. i just like leather better than plastic. no good logical reason there

she doesn't wear it often.

when teagan wears the muzzle:
-if working on her reactions w/the small animals out
-when taking her into crowded situations (especially if other dogs are around)

i like to keep on socializing her.

for instance, the next time i will probably have her muzzled is around the bay, a running race the end of march. i'm going to be running, but i might have my brother (who the dogs are familiar with, and good with) come and bring the dogs to 'watch'.
(okay, i just like taking the dogs places)

there, i would have her in the muzzle primarily in case of another dog being around.

I like leather too, but prefer plastic for safety muzzles for the reason that it's harder for someone to accidentally get a finger inside when the dog is being handled (like at the vet office). But if it's more for extra safety around other animals, not for safe handling, that doesn't really matter and leather would work.

teagan's actually good at the vet's office. apparently she lifted her lip once, but the vet was being really weird that visit, she backed up when teagan entered, told me teagan growled at her (i said 'really? i didn't hear her!' and then she said 'well.....she lifted her lip!'....so i was never really sure). the vet also gave me a big schpiel at the end about how teagan was a GSD and i needed to be careful of her, that they were unpredictable, blah blah blah. sheesh.

oddly, same vet who diagnosed teagan's HD (the emerg vet totally missed it) and who we've dealt with since and she's been amazing w/teagan.

anyways, we never have to muzzle her, whatever we're doing. i usually stay by her head, but she's always just calm and lies there.

it really is the extra safety around animals. teagan has gone after people twice, once i would say there was a certain amount of provocation and i honestly saw it as good judgement on her part, though i also wasn't handling her and didn't find out she'd done it until later - she didn't connect as she was on a traffic lead. the other time i was trying her off the prong, on a flat collar, and she WENT for some guy, i've no idea why. he looked harmless to me, but it was snowing and i wasn't wearing my glasses, so he also looked like a blurry blob to me....

is there any good, reasonably price leather muzzle maker that you know of?

What do people think about the police muzzle? I can't help but think Teagan better not be prone to panic attacks
(though it does have holes on the sides)
The belgian muzzle looks like her nose would pop out, and is very solid.
Also curious, good company to order from?

I found this company - Canadian, looks like I could custom order it in black - but it's more muzzle than I need w/Teagan (as I'm not going to be working at PP and muzzle fighting her) and is accordingly expensive - $150! (why can't the stuff I like be cheap, darn it!

Oh wait….this wasn't what I was looking for! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ROMOBOX:NEWLIST Google makes me laugh, I had this mental image of Teagan wearing it….anywho….

I'm no help with muzzle reviews as I don't own one, but I can tell you that Elite K9 is a great company. They're really nice and their shipping is super fast. Every time I've ordered from them, I've also gotten "extras" - magazines, stickers, etc. And the stuff they sell is all really good quality.

that's good to know. it seems to be the best i've found in terms of combining quality and price. the 'german shepherd' size weirds me out, there are GSDs a lot bigger than teagan, but i'll find the tape measure, do some measurements, and contact them to make sure it'll be right before i order

am wondering if i'm a really bad measurer....

elite k9 asked for teagan's measurements, fair enough, to see if she'll take GSD size or Mal size.

9.5-10" around the snout, 5" from eyes to tip of snout.

i looked on leerburg at their sizing, and she seems to be weirdly sized....is this just me?
