We have a bed time for our dogs. When they learn as pups they have to go to bed they will in time take them self to bed. All we have to say is lock down  and they all head for their crates ..

nice we use "in your place" or crate when I'm feeling lazy and don't want to say a mouthful.

My dog Kiya, 6yrs old, tells me when she wants to go to bed. She usually starts her dance & woo wooing around 9pm, the only way to end her routine is to let the dogs out to go potty, give them a cookie when they come back in, she finishes her cookie and goes into the bedroom and lays on her bed. If its a weekend and I stay up a little later, she'll come back out and stay with me, then think she can trick me for another cookie.
If I go to bed and my husband stays up, the dogs come in with me and go to bed. If my husband goes to bed first, the dogs stay up with me. Poor guy.

i taught my dog "go to your crate" and "go to your bed".
these commands are usefull when someone knocks on the door.
now i say "sleepy time" and my dog goes to our bedroom
and will sit or lay down beside the bed. once my GF and i settle in
he jumps on the bed and settles at the foot of the bed.
