I realize I am posting a lot but I did forwarn everyone. Hopefully this one is easy.
I work from home. Train (ride) horse in the morning and teach riding lessons in the eve.
With my boxer, I would ride betwwen 10 and noon and leave her in the crate. Lessons are from 3 to 8. She was in the crate and then outdoor kennel.

With Cooper I do not want him to miss any socializing so I put a 5x5 pen in the arena. It has a foot of straw and a little kennel if he wants to be away from people. My problem is he barks for me in the pen and the crate. Do I ignore and let him figure it out? Loud noice to startle him? verbal repimand?

give him something to do while you are training, peanut butter filled kong or a rmb. I would ignore the barks and go to him only when he is quiet so he relates quiet/attention. Otherwise he will bark and you will give him attention, which is what he wants.
