Hello,

Im new to this forum and have a question about my 7yr old female shepard. Over the last year or so she has developed a film over her eyes and little by little she is being blinded. I have her at the vet and they gave me a cream to apply into each eye ( optimmune opth). After using two tubes its not getting better. My dog is young and in great health very active and loves to play. Her eyes are permitting her from being as active as she would like to be. Is there any help for my Mickey?

Did your vet give you an actual diagnosis? Like cataracts or pannus? I believe if it is cataracts the only way to resolve that is through surgery, but if is is Pannus then with the proper medication it should help it clear up, but will probaby need to be on medication daily for the rest of their life as it is an auto immune disease. I know a couple people who have Shepherds with Pannus and with the medicated drops they give to their dogs daily it has really helped. Now I'm by no means an expert so hopefully someone else can chime in with some advice.

If there's any way possible to get her to a specialist, that would be great. They should be able to tell you immediately what it is and how it can be treated. I've had a dog with pannus and with the proper medication his eyes actually got better over the years. But it needs to be treated correctly or it can blind them.
