I know I saw instructions for this at one point, but I can't find it now.
I've tried numerous times to import a pic for my avatar. I made the image smaller than 80x80. I've tried numerous different ways, but I always get a fail message saying it's from a wrong form.
Can someone explain how to do this?
Thank-you!

Do you have it hosted somewhere online, such as photobucket?

Okay, good - copy the direct link below your picture and paste it into the box. In order for pictures to show in your posts you need to use the Img link, but that will not work for your avatar pic.

Thanks. I have used both IMG link and URL link but neither of those worked. I didn't try the # under the pic cuz it didn't look like a link.
Did it work?

Tried again. I highlighted the code directly under the pic and cut & then paste it to settings where it says URL to your avatar.

Carol, someone made that for me, I have no idea how to do it! She's not active on the board anymore, but another member offered to add Halo to it - do you want me to ask her if she'll make one for you? It's just a .gif instead of a .jpg.

Now I tried pasting it to the box that says IM icq. (don't know what that is but thought I'd try it.)
As you can see. . . still no avatar.
Highjack away Carol. If we get into advanced avatar placement maybe I'll figure out the basics on the way.

Doggydog, did you click the radio button next to the box where you posted the link and then hit Submit at the bottom of the page?

Well, I'm fresh out of ideas! Can you post the link that you're trying to use here?

At the bottom of the setting's page. Where it says URL to your avatar. Right? I paste the code. click the button and then submit. And. . . nothing.

Can you paste it here so we can look at the link and see if there's something wrong with it? I really can't think of any reason why it doesn't work - it sounds like you're doing everything right.

You must only post the exact link like JUST

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/MaggieRose/2006_03_29FlyinW_MaggieandElsa.jpg

that's what is in the blank under " URL to your avatar (Your image must be smaller than 80x80 pixels; .gif, .jpg, .png accepted) " under My Stuff then My Profile.

Normally we do NOT post a photo on the site with just that link. Normally it has to have an
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/MaggieRose/2006_03_29FlyinW_MaggieandElsa.jpg [img]

If you have the [img] on both sides it won't show up in your avatar.

WHAT IS THE LINK you are using? If we can see it maybe we can figure it out (like I just put mine) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/MaggieRose/2006_03_29FlyinW_MaggieandElsa.jpg gives [img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/MaggieRose/2006_03_29FlyinW_MaggieandElsa.jpg

I just changed my avie just to see how to do it again because it has been so long. Once your pic is less than 80x80(photobucket has a resizer and I made mine 80x60) run your mouse over the pic, scroll down to 2nd option-it says direct link and the code starts with http:// Come back to your profile, click the URL radio button and paste the code in, hit submit.

On Photo bucket, I copy the 'img' code

<span style="color: #000066">
" media="(max-width: 640px)"> " media="(max-width: 960px)"> " media="(max-width: 1920px)">
</span>

Click on the radio button by URL to your avatar and paste the img code in the box. Put your cursor to the end of the box and back it up to delete<span style="color: #000066"> IMG </span>from both the beginning and the end of the string that you copied into the URL box.

Doggonefool, you have too much of the link in your avatar....

THIS is what you have in there:

http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a153/doggonefool/?action=view&current=2643f481.pbw] http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a153/doggonefool/th_IMG_25

There's way too much there. It should be a SIMPLE link and the fact you have a [img] in there is another problem.

Also, usually the DIRECT link will end with a .jpg

Look at the one I use from photobucket. It starts with an

http://img.photobucket.com/

then has a albums/v155/MaggieRose/2006_03_29FlyinW_MaggieandElsa

ending with an .jpg

The entire complete and total link that is ALL I have in the avatar space is http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/MaggieRose/2006_03_29FlyinW_MaggieandElsa.jpg
