Our beloved Joey passed away last month at the age of 15 years, 7 months. The house felt so lonely and sad. We knew we’d get another dog eventually. We found Athena at our local animal shelter; we took her home this morning.

She’s a GSD/Lab mix; she’ll turn 4 in September.

Joey’s looking down from Heaven saying, you did good.

Do you know her story at all?
Athena (Back Story)
September 2017 in McKinney Texas she was brought home to a family with children. They also had Moses (a pittie).
The family (husband and wife) lost jobs due to Covid.
Their family said come to New York to find work.
Sadly, no work and also the couple dad or dad in law was allergic to Athena.
So couple placed both Athena and Moses (three weeks or so ago) in our Town Animal Shelter. Moses is yet to be adopted.

A house is just a house until a dog makes it a home. I don't really understand how people can have a house without one, good job!
Thank you, and totally agree!

It’s only her second day with us and already she’s taken numerous walks, chased a bunny rabbit, had an impromptu meet-and-greet with another dog, socialized with the neighbors. She’s now fast asleep, snoring!

When we took her to the vet on July 30, she weighed in at 98.6 pounds. The vet said she could stand to lose about 15 pounds.

Jump to August 16: she’s down to 94.2 pounds. All those walks, playing, healthy diet and minimal snacks are doing the trick.
