Just a short update: Annie is now on pain medications and seems to be doing better because of that - she was snarly and snappy, that has stopped. She is getting a full vet work-up before she travels. Her foster mom will be picking her up and taking her for an evaluation at a higher-tech clinic. After that she will meet with her regular vet and decisions for next steps will be made.

She has a precious face and she is much more comfortable now, so at least that is a start.

Annie is now in foster care. Aside from being beautiful and highly intelligent, she has a very strong will to live. In spite of her pain, she let veterinary staff examine her and X-ray her without a peep. She catches on to everything very, very fast, has a strong ball drive and wants to play!

She is being treated for her infection and has a super appetite. Once she has cleared her infection and gained some weight, surgery will be considered.

Annie had her third assessment with her own vet today. She continues to be sweet-natured and gentle. There is now room for cautious joy: Annie's vet disagrees that her leg is paralysed and frozen - she has detected joint movement and feeling. She believes that if Annie continues to improve and build muscle tone, with the right operation it is possible her injured leg may be saved. Annie will need further assessment at a specialized facility.

In the meantime, she is scarfing down satin balls and gaining weight. Please keep your thoughts with Annie - here's hoping she may make a full recovery.

I think that is the best news I have heard all day. I am so glad that Molly decided not to give up on this girl. I will be praying that she will get good news from the specialist and that she has a speedy recovery.

Annie is having surgery on her leg today. The surgeon is optimistic that her leg can be saved. Please send a little prayer to Annie. She is a great girl and would love to run and jump again.

Re: Annie is home!

Got this last night:

"Annie came home today! She is already using her leg - home with Rimadyl for pain and the prognosis is excellent for her

The Vet at UGA told us that Annie was a favorite of everyone there and that she really does try to talk! We already knew that!

Thank you all for your emotional and financial support - Annie and her story only makes us work that much harder for the GSD's in shelters because they are so misunderstood. I will try to keep you all updated with photo's of her progress. She is a wonderful girl and we are very grateful that we were able to save her and, because of the wonderful Vet staff at UGA, also save her leg."

Many thanks to those who contributed to her care - she sounds like a truly wonderful girl. Hopefully pictures to follow.
