Of course this is funny to me to have a puppy that looks like a hyena all the time lol but i feel so bad for her when she just wants to meet people and people are afraid.

They go up at almost every emotion. When I say "hungry" which is the word for dinner or the word "treat". When she sees someone she likes, when she is playing ball with her brother, or i am playing in the backyard with her. My Navah has only once (when a kid was sticking his fingers and face in our chain fence) had an agressive moment (by agressive i mean just barking, but as far away from the fence as she could be). She loves everyone, she loves life, she is just so happy.

Its embarassing now because since she loves walks so much her hackles are raised the entire time... im talking 30-40 min. People cross the road, give me dirty looks because i am walking this ferocious puppy... i can tell she gets upset because as i said she LOVES people and wants to say hi but they all walk away from her.

Does anyone else have this? Will she grow out of it? I should take a pic... it does look funny, but my poor girl just wants people to play with her, not run away from her.

EDIT: Forgot to add she is 6 months now.

poor baby!!! perhaps pet store trips on a very regular basis might help. Shasta does that sometimes too. I just smooth her fur down and tell her to calm down. I guess if anyone wants to be afraid fine. those that actually want to meet her will meet her. You could always try approaching people for socializing. I'm sure once they meet her, they wont see her as a threat. You could nicely explain you're working on socialization and she gets so excited her fur tells her emotions kinda like a tail.

Stosh did this for a month or two when he was about 5 mos old- any excitement put his fur up and he's got a long coat so it was really noticeable. I told people he just figured out how to do it and was practicing for the future. He soon got over it and now just does it when it's more appropriate.

Annie did this for a long time and she's white....she looked like a giant cockatoo. :)
Hahaha omg cute!!!

Thanks for the feedback guys, glad to know it wont last forever. My poor baby. Its bad enough that she is a big black dog, but with her hackles up? She will never make friends!

Stosh is a big 80lb fluffy 8 mo old and he so wants to play with other dogs at school and the dogs are ok with it, it's the owners who pull their dog away from the big hairy beast with his tongue hanging out! Poor Stosh. There is a 5 mo old black gsd named Kobe that loves to play, at least his mom isn't scared
