Re: Columbia, MD - Monty 2 yrs Going Blind

Poor thing. First he looses his people (by no choice of his own) and now he is losing his sight
I can't imagine that he is going to have much of a chance of being adopted if he is going blind.... Anybody close to evaluate this guy?

Re: Columbia, MD - Monty 2 yrs Going Blind

Monty is a wonderful male German Shepherd who has quite a story. He was originally turned into animal control as a young pup. He was adopted out to a home and lived there for 2 years. The daughter of the family became pregnant, and the baby developed allergies. They could no longer keep Monty and had to bring him into the shelter. He is already neutered, good with people and especially loves to go outside for walks. He is a young boy, is good with most dogs, and already housebroken. He is a wonderful dog. Recently he started bumping into things, so we had the vet look at his eyes. He has a retinal degeneration where he is slowly becoming blind. The vet says he is not in pain, but will need a very dedicated family who will look out for him as he looses his sight. A stable home where he can get used to walls and steps now while he can still see is pertinent for him. In regard to getting around if he looses complete sight, he will already know his home and where all the walls and doors are. He will need some help from his people, but he will give so much love back to you that it will all be worth it. Monty is a wonderful and pleasant guy; he just needs a loving and understanding family who will cherish his compassion.

When I was young we had a Doxie that was loosing his sight and hearing. We got a pup and the pup acted as the old guy's Service Dog. The pup was always at his shoulder.

Since Monty gets along well with other dogs, maybe a nice calm female would be nice to buddy him up with.

Has anyone checked with the shelter? I believe Monty was adopted maybe two weeks ago by what seemed to be a wonderful family. He could have been returned, but it sounded unlikely.

Just called, they're closed on weekends. He appeared on the shelter site on 8/11, that's when I posted him. Says he was adopted as a pup and just now returned.

Monty was returned to the shelter (by the person who adopted him 10 days ago) because he had diarrhea. She said that she wanted a healthy dog.
He needs adoption or rescue commitment by 5PM tomorrow.
He is very URGENT!!!
