I recieved a call yesterday from a woman in Ohio who has a 6 year old unneutered male dog that she needs to rehome within 2 weeks due to her surgery. The reason I posted in the urgent section is because she will take him to be euthanized if she cannot find someone to take him because she said the shelter told her they cant take him (so gave her my number) and she also said she would rather he is pts than stuck at a shelter to die alone, she "doesnt want to do that to her dog". She has 2 hurniated disks and a vertibrae injury, and has the dog on a chain, in which she claims she doesnt bring him in the house at all, and wont even be able to get out there to take him his food once surgery is done. She said he loves people, is excellent with kids,ok with cats and dogs once he has been introduced and is around them for a bit. Apparently, they used to live on a farm, but since moving to the city she just keeps him chained and she said he was attacked by a pit bull while chained, according to a witness the guy unleashed both dogs and the pit bull ended up being euthanized-all of this is documented. (The witness was a neighbor-a parole officer). Since the attack, he is very wary of other dogs but is said to be okay once around them, but was never like this before the attack/chaining occured. She claims all the "problems" started when they moved to the city. He is up to date on his shots, about 100 pounds, calm in the house when she used to let him in, and had him since he was a puppy, she claims from German lines. He used to live with two other dogs, she did not say what happened to the others. I am pretty concerned over this guy, as he is left outside from what I understand all the time, and if she doesnt even know how she will go outside to feed him when the surgery is done, I worry even more. She left me her number, and said she would welcome any help before euthanizing him. If anyone can help, PLEASE, PLEASE pm me and I will give you her number to contact her!!!!!

Thank-You for posting this, I hope someone can help this poor dog.
When she goes for surgery they should probably check to see if she has a brain/or heart!!!! No one with both would let this baby suffer like he is!

Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

OMG! What a horrible story. Is there anyone that could take him, even as a foster for now? I would be willing after an eval/temp test is done. I am even going out on a limb here, but he is probably going to need to be completely re-programmed, trained, socialized, the whole nine yards after what he has gone through. Is anyone close enough to check on him and do a temp test? I have very dog savvy children who are older, but I would like some more info from someone maybe on this board if possible.

OMG! What is wrong with people, please can someone help this poor dog.
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

where is he in Ohio?Has she tried contacting the GSD club there? May club members rescue, and have spaces in their kennels. There's always LastHopeGSD. Perhaps they can spread the word on their lists and we can find this guy a home.
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

I was emailed some info on someone tonight I will be checking into, also some Dogs Deserve Better contacts in Ohio- thank you for sending these my way! I am going to touch base with the lady tomorrow just so she knows he is being worked on so she doesnt do something with him... I dont even want to think about it.
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

Thanks Danni. If you need any help contacting rescues or anything, please pm me.
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

Any news on this guy?
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

I have recieved an email from Connie, and she has given me contact info for someone who may be able to hold him for a few days while I get some other possibilities checked out. Will update more when I get more info. In the meantime, if any rescue has room for Chase, please, please contact me- he needs away from this situation asap.

Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

eadavis: where are you located? I'm trying to see if any of the shelters/rescues in my part of Ohio has room for this fellow. They are usually quite full but I'll ask.
I may be able to help with a transport.
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

We are in Bluefield West Virginia
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

413 miles - that's sure not a bad transport... Thanks, eadavis. Danni - possible???
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

We recently had the 9 month old and had several approved adopters for shepherds so we are hoping we can locate dogs needing loving homes for them. As always we have kenneling space we are just short on sponsors.
Re: Chase in Conneaut, OH

My husband and I often stay in Bluefield when we go to Daytona for Bike Week.
Conneaut is north of me so if he comes this direction, I can probably take him part of the way...depending on day of the week and my work schedule.
