Wow Jesse amazes me every single day. He seems to know the difference between a bad person and a good person and has totally different stances for both, on guard pose and watchful with person that doesn't look up to any good and then wiggly and happy or relaxed with a good person. This weekend shocked me even more, we had a my husband's best friend and his wife over to go swimming in our pool, his wife can swim but is scared to swim over water if she can't touch the bottom but she decided to swim the length of the pool, Jesse somehow knew she was uncomfortable and jumped into the water and swam beside her, when she got to the deep end side of the pool he kissed her and then they swam together on the return trip (she loved it and he kept her from being scared). I was so proud of Jesse.

How many bad people has he met?
We have a drug house a few doors down from us rest of the neighborhood are good blue collar people, but with that drug house, we have runners and traffic to this house so he has seen quite a few questionable people and a ton of good people and he seems to know the different ones. If I have him out front with me tied up on long lead he will be quiet and relaxed when a good person walks by (even with a dog with them) but with a bad person he will stand up in guard mode and sometimes hair will raise.

Totally agree! We lived in Rio many years ago (there's super high crime rates down there) and both my long coat Arrow and stock coat Aprille had the same reactions you're describing. I actually got out of a potential sexual assault attempt on me when I was walking back home with Arrow afterdark (dumb teenager I was huh?). The dude didn't see Arrow (both my GSDs were full black back then) and came on ready for action. Arrow was Schutzhund trained so... but I could tell something was about to happen before the guy was too close. Arrow's hair was raised and he used to puff his cheeks in a huffing-and-puffing routine. I love how gentle and mellow my GSDs are all through my life and how caring and protective at the same time. Love 'em!

Jesse is like my boxer Ava. Every once in awhile you come across a very special dog. You should get him therapy trained.

Ava had a knack for people in distress at a very very early age. She has gone on to be my nephew's part time service dog. She rides the bus with him ect... Heis language skills have improved 200% since Ava's arrival in his life.

The other day she left Jack's side at Target and went up to a man in a suit. I was mortified that she broke out of service duty and she would get hair on the elderly gentleman's suit. He dropped to his knees, hugging Ava in tears. He had just come from his wife of 37 years funeral.

All I can say is foster Jesse's gift. It will amaze you what they know.

OMG Ava sounds wonderful too and I felt a tug to my heart reading about her leaving service duty to the man who just lost his wife. Yes Jesse temperament test was in line with guide/assistance/therapy dog. We are thinking about having him therapy trained as St. John's Ambulance runs the program and it is here in Brampton but I have heard they don't use GSD as some people are afraid of them.

Kayle had an intuitive feel for people. She almost never met anyone she didn't like, but when she did, she told us about it.
