We have had a 7 month old female GSD since she was 3 months old and have just brought home a 9 week old male GSD puppy. The 7 month will not leave the puppy be is constantly trying to herd him around. We always supervise when they are together. Is this normal behavior? we do separate them into different kennels through out the day and the female is out most of the time. Are we doing this the right way? Any insight would be helpful as we do not want the puppy to get hurt. Also the puppy is not afraid of the female.

An adolescent puppy and an infant puppy do not make compatible playmates.I would keep the older pup leashed when they are interacting. You may have to do this for quite a few months since they are so far apart mentally and physically.

bad age combination --- possibly worse than littermates which are at the same age and stage of mental and physical development.

Did your breeder ask you any questions .

I agree with Carmen that this is a terribly difficult age combination to have. The 7 month old is not trained, the 9 week old is confident. If you really want to make this work know that you have to invest a huge amount of time to train them separately so they don't bond with each other... and then you have no control over either.

I couldn't do it unless I did not work and had more money. But if I were to try, I would find a really good one on one trainer. You are likely going to need on going support that will be unique to your situation. The internet won't be able to see what is going on with the dogs and what is going on with you and your training.

Good luck.
