My girl has recently started fast her self every few days she will go a day with out eating at all. I just make sure she has fresh water all day and she does fine she is not losing weight and is healthy so I am not concerned. But is this normal for a shepherd to do this? Before anyone asks she has been checked by 2 vets bc I was worried at first but they said she will eat when she wants too. But all tests (blood, fecal) came back negative for parasites or other harmful things. So my thing is does anyone else's dog do this or some variation?

But I think she would be eating less than that. But I forgot to mention there is a small pattern and those days she chooses not to eat are the days she only gets to go on a couple walks for the day but usually she gets to play and run around or walk the trails for 3 hours on the days she does eat. Could it be she is smart enough to know how much to eat because she will only need so much energy? Cause it will be like eat 3 days then on the 4th day if she eats only eat half a cup then the next 3-4 days eat everything and so on. It's hard to tell if she doesn't like the food as I have had that issue before with her then I switched foods but then she was eating daily but only 1/4 cup but that was consistent every day. She was also not excited before with the new food which I mix BB wilderness puppy chicken with alittle BB wilderness Salmon cause she loves the salmon more than anything. But I don't want to completely take her off the puppy food yet not till she hits about 8 months. But she is always excited to eat generally except those days where she chooses not to. Like I said though not too worried she is still gaining 2 lbs a week roughly and her energy level is high on the training days but days when I work for 12 hours and she only gets 3 30-45 min walks cause I spend my lunch break and eat while I walk her. But that only happens 2 times a week and unfortunately till I find a better job is varies which two days I have to work them.

My 8 month old tends to eat only after she has had proper exercise, so perhaps this is also true of yours. Mine also prefers to eat at night. I offer her food in AM, and even after a very long walk, she will rarely touch it- but i like to offer it anyways. In the afternoon I offer about 2 cups in her bowl, she will usually eat some of it. At night, after our long walk, she eats about 1-4 cups depending on how much she ate earlier that day. According to the type of brand i am using, her age, her weight, etc. she is supposed to have 3-4 cups a day.
Like doggiedad said, perhaps she simply does not care much about the food you offer her! You could also try adding some wet food and mix it in really well so that every single kibble is touched with wet, you can get away with using only 1/6 to 1/4 of a can of wet food per feeding. Sometimes this helps with dogs who do not fancy a certain type of kibble, or dry food in general.
Good luck!
