Start reading lots of training books by people like Patricia McConnell and Temple Grandin so you understand the breeds. Then visit your local trainers and ask if you can watch a class they give so you can get a good visual of what you are getting into. You might also ask if they need a volunteer assistant to help set up for training or break down the field after training. Also you might go to your local shelter and ask if they need volunteers to walk the dogs. That would give you a good chance to get to know different personalities dogs have and how to work with them. Mainly try to spend time around others who train dogs if possible. Good luck.

Get into as many dog actitivities as you can: Rally, Obedience, Agility, Tracking, etc. Having titles on your dog will help you get credibility. You will also be training with a wide variety of people and dogs, which will give you experiences, and will help you develop connections in the training world. You might be asked to help out or substitute in classes for other trainers if you show lots of ability, and that is a good way to start out.

I agree. FInding a great trainer and mentoring with them is great too. You can gradually help with classes and maybe start earning some money while not having to take the main burden on of the facility and insurance and...
