leash pressure

I got a new trainer for Vicky that will come next week, I saw him training he only used leash pressure no treats except toys when he ends.
Some people told me that this might be bad for dogs specially GSD as they are more sensitive and they might turn to be coward dogs, so is it a safe way to use the leash pressure technique?

The trainer is a K9 dogs trainer at the police academy.

That is how I train . The leash is a direct non verbal communication. No treats for reward just lots of praise.

I use leash pressure AND food rewards. No reason you can't do both. For puppies though, most of my training is off leash. Lease pressure is great for training a dog not to pull on leash.

Leash pressure is really useful. I use it for refining timing and positions. Like baillif said though, you really need to be consistent and clear.
