Only Purebreds with Pedigrees?

I am very interested in Agility, and I am wondering: Do you need AKC papers, and pedigrees, and all of that. If your dog is purebred then can he/she enter a competitions, and win??? Or only ones with papers to prove it, like pedigrees and AKC papers. Thanks guys!

Not all agility competitions require purebreds or papers. I'm not involved in agility, but I know quite a few people with mutts and un-papered dogs who participate in it. I'm sure someone who is involved will know how to go about it without papers/with a mixed breed.

really the only thing you need a purebred dog for is dog shows. Beyond that, long as you register properly, you're dog can participate. Just depends on where you are and what rules they have for that event and area.

AKC is a purebred registry. If you buy a purebred dog whose parents are registered, then the dog can be registered (so long as the parents were on full registration lol). I believe they also have a system for un-papered purebreds to be registered, but it requires the animal be altered and it must at least appear to be of that breed.

Conformation is the only thing I can think of where you'd be required to have a purebred dog. Both the AKC and UKC offer an alternative registration for mixed breeds and dogs that look pure without papers. I do think they require them to be fixed though, not 100% on that.

You can enter pretty much any of the competitions from there.

NADAC is a agility registry that only requires the handler/dog to be a member. Or so it was the last time I trialed through them. (once)
